Animal welfare: an ethically wrong use of sentient beings
I completely condemn all use of sentient beings, because as the word “use“ is usually used it implies an ethical wrong. I also express concern over the term “animal welfare” as it is mostly a marketing tool, while I recognize the importance of it in order to lessen suffering and obstruct animal use.
What about plants? What we know and can reasonably assume about plant physiology and evolution is enough to explain what we observe. The likelihood for plants being sentient is close to none. Just being alive does not make an individual worthy of moral consideration, only sentience does. More…
